My First Quilt Design

After seeing a video on YouTube I got the idea for this quilt. The video was “Lotus Blossom Bias Appliqué Tutorial“ by PileOFabrics. The video demonstrates how to make the Lotus Blossom quilt block using Clover Quick Fuse Bias.

I modeled the dimensions and design of this quilt after a quilt done by my great grandmother. It has 4 columns with 5 rows. The blocks were 14 inches by 14 inches with 4-inch sashing. The image at the top is the design I created in photoshop back in 2015.

Watching her put the black bias tape on top of fabric made me think of Hello Kitty. It's a simple shape outlined with black. At the same time I also saw "How to Appliqué with Fusible Adhesive" by Wendy Gratz at Shiny Happy World. Seeing these videos gave me the knowledge I needed to make this quilt.
